This VR headset model was created using Autodesk Maya for modelling and Substance Painter for texturing. It serves as an interactable object in a video game, enabling players to switch to a 3D third-person perspective. This asset is part of the style development for a future game project.
Project Details:
Purpose: This VR headset enables players to shift from first to third-person views in the game.
Visual Quality: Designed as a hero prop for close-up camera shots.
Implementation:
Game Integration: This prop will be implemented alongside a mechanic that enhances player immersion by allowing seamless transitions between perspectives based on player action.
Project Role & Contribution:
Design & Modelling:
I designed and created this from start to finish. With the goal of better defining the art style for the game it will feature in. Call it an art style study piece if you will!
Texturing:
Textures were crafted to blend a playful aesthetic with sharp, defined edges, aiming to create a visually striking contrast that defines the game's art style.
Learning Experience:
I learned the hard way about the importance of model efficiency, specifically, the need for strategic polygon reduction, let's just say bevelled edges should be reserved for the high poly model where possible! I plan to apply these lessons in future projects for better performance.
Development Context:
Style Development: This asset contributes to the aesthetic of an upcoming game project.
This VR headset not only showcases my 3D art skills but also my journey towards balancing aesthetics with performance in game development.
